APPLICATION DESIGN 11-14 Project 3: Lo-Fi App Design Prototype

 WEEK11

Learn

In the 11th week, the teacher used Figma to guide us to optimize the Taobao page. We analyzed the existing page. Its layout was complex and information overload affected user search. We simplified the search path and highlighted key function entrances like putting common categories first according to the user's usage process. Based on MVP functions, we reduced redundant modules and retained the core shopping process. In Figma, we redesigned the layout and regularized the product display area and unified visual elements.

 Reflection

In this class during the process of Taobao page optimization, I had a deep reflection. When the teacher taught us to use Figma for design, I was impressed by how to find reference materials and patterns. I realized that I had been relying too much on common material libraries before. The teacher introduced many professional design websites, industry forums and data research platforms. I understood the importance of accurately finding materials and patterns for design. But I'm still not proficient enough in screening and integrating these resources, and can't quickly extract effective elements to integrate into the page. In the future, I need to broaden the ways of collecting resources and improve my ability to screen and integrate them to make the design more innovative and targeted.

WEEK12(The teacher was absent from class)

WEEK13

Learn

In the design course of the thirteenth week, we focused on the specific application of high-fidelity and low-fidelity design styles in interface design and how to optimize the design based on user feedback. Through the analysis of past design cases, we identified some problems such as unobvious buttons and inconvenient search functions. For example, the buttons of some applications are designed too small or the color contrast with the background is low, making it difficult for users to quickly locate and identify them; the position of the search box is not prominent enough, or the entrance to the search function is hidden too deeply, requiring users to click multiple times to access, which affects the convenience of searching.

To address these issues, we formulated corresponding optimization procedures. In terms of button design, we increased the button size and enhanced the contrast with the background to facilitate user operation. For the search function, we placed the search box in a prominent position on the interface, such as the top center or the upper right corner, and added clear search icons and hint texts to guide users to quickly find the search entrance. In addition, we also optimized the search algorithm to improve the accuracy and relevance of search results, enabling users to obtain the required information more efficiently.

 Reflection

This class made me deeply reflect on my deficiencies in interface design. I realized that in previous designs, I didn't consider the user experience comprehensively enough, such as neglecting the convenience of buttons and search functions. In the future, I will pay more attention to details, give priority to the user's perspective when designing, conduct more tests and optimizations, and improve my design skills to ensure that my design works are more practical and user-friendly.

WEEK14(self -Study )

During the development process, three evaluators were invited to conduct practical operations on both the low-fidelity and high-fidelity versions of my Taobao app pages. They first interacted with the low-fidelity prototype and carried out three distinct processes.

For the process of purchasing a product, they navigated through the simulated interface to search for a specific item, in this case, the specialty dried persimmon cakes. They explored different search methods, such as using keywords in the search bar and browsing through relevant categories and subcategories. After locating the desired product, they added it to the cart, proceeded to the checkout page, and simulated the steps of applying discount coupons and entering shipping information. Their evaluation of this process focused on the intuitiveness of the search function, the clarity of product details display, and the ease of the checkout procedure. Some of the comments included the need for more prominent display of key product information like origin and production date, and a more streamlined coupon application process to avoid confusion.

In the task of viewing the express delivery information, they attempted to track a mock order. They located the "My Orders" section and clicked on the tracking option. They assessed the comprehensiveness and clarity of the tracking details provided, such as the real-time location of the package, estimated delivery time, and transit updates. The evaluators suggested enhancing the visual representation of the tracking progress, perhaps with a more interactive map or timeline display, to make it easier for users to understand the journey of their package.

Regarding the process of changing the language, nationality, and currency, they accessed the settings menu. They explored the dropdown menus and input fields for making these adjustments. Their feedback centered around the ease of finding these options within the interface and the clarity of instructions. Some noted that the language selection could be more prominent and accompanied by language previews to aid in the selection process. Additionally, the currency conversion process needed to be more transparent, with clearer explanations of how the exchange rates were determined and updated.

Based on their comprehensive evaluations and the areas they identified for improvement, I meticulously analyzed each comment and suggestion. I then proceeded to make targeted modifications and enhancements to the high-fidelity prototype. This involved redesigning certain interface elements to improve visibility and usability, adjusting the layout of forms and menus for a more intuitive user experience, and refining the functionality of various features to better meet the needs and expectations expressed by the evaluators. Through this iterative process, I aimed to create a more polished and user-friendly Taobao app experience that would enhance customer satisfaction and usability....

SPATIAL DESIGN WEEK11-14 Project 3: UX-Focused Campus Spatial Design Final Project

 WEEK11

I was fully immersed in the task of conceiving the campus architecture design in this week's course. I was deeply attracted by the graceful curved elements of seashells, especially their round shapes, which were just like lively poems. When looking for inspiration on campus, the glistening lake and the open square came into view. The shoreline of the lake and the circular layout of the square had a wonderful match with the curves of seashells. I carefully collected these elements and analyzed their characteristics and beauty in depth. I'm determined to take the round shape of seashells as the core to create a unique campus building, allowing the smooth lines to dance in the building and complement the scenery of the lakeside square. I'm looking forward to perfectly carving out this concept in the subsequent design process.

This class has been really fruitful for me and also made me reflect deeply. Through the process of collecting seashell elements to conceive the campus building, I realized that my observation skills still need improvement. I had never paid such close attention to the potential sources of design inspiration on campus before, like the subtle curves of the lakeside square. When extracting elements, I found that I was not good at transforming them and it was hard for me to quickly and accurately turn the forms of seashells into the initial ideas for the building.

During the exchanges with my classmates, I saw their unique perspectives and innovative ways of thinking, which made me understand that I still need to break through boldly in terms of creativity and not be limited to conventional design ideas. In the future, I will observe the surrounding environment more actively, learn different design techniques and improve my design quality, striving to show better creativity and more mature ideas in the next design task.

WEEK12

During the 12th week of the course, I was thinking about the devices that should be added to the lakeside building. We all agreed that the guide signs should be eye-catching and could be made of wood or metal, paired with simple and clear words and icons. The color of the wall could be selected from natural tones such as lake blue and light green to blend in with the surrounding environment. In terms of building convenience, the passages and layout should be rationally planned. Its main functions could be set as leisure and entertainment, cultural exchanges, etc., to meet the different needs of teachers and students.

After this class, I deeply reflected on the design of the lakeside building. In terms of its integration with the lakeside square, we need to reexamine the proportion issue. If the building is too large, it will look obtrusive, while if it's too small, it will lack a sense of presence. We should accurately measure the size of the building according to the scale of the square, the distribution of surrounding greenery and the flow of people, to ensure that it complements the square and achieves a balance between aesthetics and practicality. I will pay more attention to the overall coordination in the next design.

WEEK13

During the 13th week of the course study, I devoted myself wholeheartedly to the preparatory work for the design of the lakeside square on campus. I took measurement tools and carefully measured the approximately available area of the lakeside square precisely, and recorded its outline and details by hand drawing. After repeated thinking and attempts, I finally determined the specific appearance of my lakeside square. It will have smooth lines that echo with the lake water, and incorporate natural elements at the same time, creating an aesthetically pleasing and practical leisure space. I am looking forward to the gradual improvement of the subsequent design.

This class has benefited me a lot and also made me reflect deeply. When measuring and designing the lakeside square, I realized that I wasn't meticulous enough in data processing, which led to some dimensional deviations. Although I got some flashes of inspiration when extracting elements by hand drawing, my techniques were not skillful enough and the integration of natural elements was still a bit stiff. In the future, I will strengthen my skill training, pay attention to details and the overall coordination, and strive to design more perfect works.

APPLICATION DESIGN 5-10 Project 2: UI/UX Design Document

WEEK5

Learn

This week's course focused on App function design. We learned to classify and integrate the program functions of basic Apps. Taking the payment page as an example, payment methods, payment time, refund time, etc. are the core functional elements of this page. We need to sort out these necessary functions, remove the inappropriate content at the same time, and consider adding new functions.

After that, we applied this method to the design of new Apps. The current assignment is to analyze the existing functions of Taobao. We need to identify which functions of Taobao can be removed and which new functions can be added. This series of learning and assignments enables us to master the method of analyzing Apps from the perspective of functions, understand the roles of different functions in Apps, and help us plan functions more scientifically when designing new Apps, thus enhancing the user experience.

 Reflection

I have learned a lot from this App function design class. The method of analyzing existing Apps first and then designing new Apps is quite practical. For example, the analysis of payment functions has helped me understand the logical connections between different functions. The analysis of Taobao's functions in the assignment also enabled me to examine applications from the perspectives of user experience and function rationality.

However, I also faced some challenges. Judging whether a function is appropriate and coming up with new functions require experience and an understanding of users' needs. I often got stuck in my own subjective ideas. In the future, I will study users' habits. I also hope that the teacher can share more practical cases in class to broaden our minds.

       WEEK6(public holidays)

WEEK7

Learn

In the class of Week 7, we learned about user research in App design. Regarding how to conduct user research for our own App, the following points are important.
Components of user research:
Personal information such as age, gender, and region, which can help us understand the basic characteristics and preferences of users.
Evaluation of the App's page design, including whether the layout, colors, and icons are aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly.
The types and operating systems of the devices used by users, as this is related to the compatibility of the App.
The inconveniences encountered by users during the use of the App, such as slow loading and complicated operations.
UI/UX design should be based on the research results. UI focuses on visual presentation, while UX emphasizes interactive experience. The combination of the two can enhance user satisfaction.

 Reflection

I have learned a lot from this lesson. Regarding the user research of the Taobao App, I realize that collecting personal information can help us segment user groups and understand their consumption patterns. Studying the page design can optimize the visual experience and enhance its attractiveness. Knowing about the users' devices can ensure compatibility. Focusing on the inconveniences during use enables us to improve the functions.

However, I also understand that the research needs to be more in-depth and not just stay on the surface issues. In the future, I will design questionnaires and conduct interviews more scientifically to accurately grasp the users' needs.

SPATIAL DESIGN WEEK5-10 Project 2: Site analysis and User research for UX-Focused Campus Spatial Design

WEEK5

This week has benefited me a lot and also triggered my deep reflection. During the study of space and form, I realized that my previous understanding of space was too superficial and I didn't fully consider the close connections among various elements. When analyzing the works of design masters, I was amazed at their ingenious use of elements such as lines and colors. By comparison, I found that I lacked bold innovation and delicate control when doing design myself. And the discussion on public space design made me understand that I shouldn't be confined to traditional thinking and should learn to use technology to deepen the design. In the future, I will pay more attention to details, improve my aesthetic taste, and bravely try different design techniques, integrating the knowledge I've learned to strive for a qualitative leap in my design ability.

WEEK6

This week has given me a completely new perspective on spatial design. I used to overlook vertical elements, but I've come to realize that they have so many functions in dividing space, creating atmosphere, and shaping the environment.

When studying linear vertical elements, the case of Campo Square in Siena, Italy, gave me a firsthand look at their powerful space - shaping capabilities. However, I'm also aware that I'm not yet proficient in applying these elements in practice.

After class, I need to find some relevant projects to practice with, deepen my understanding, and improve my application skills.

 WEEK7

In this fundamental course of form and space, I deeply realized the importance of opening design in space. Different types of openings, such as inter-planar openings, corner openings, and extended openings, have a huge impact on the visual effect, atmosphere, and function of space. I am amazed by the dramatic lighting effects brought by the opening design in the works of masters. This makes me understand that factors such as size, number, and location should be comprehensively considered in design to create a space that is both practical and beautiful. I also look forward to better applying this knowledge in future studies.

WEEK8(self-study week)

Questionnaire on the Construction of the Leisure Corridor in the Lakeside Square of the School:

Face - to - face Interview on Spatial Design:

 WEEK9

I have gained a lot from this  on spatial relationships. I learned about the characteristics and examples of the four types of spatial relationships, such as the enclosure in "space within a space", the overlap in "interlocking spaces", etc. Also, the cases of additive and subtractive transformations in formal changes have greatly broadened my vision and inspired my design ideas.

However, I also noticed my own shortcomings. I lack imagination when it comes to complex spatial combinations and may encounter difficulties when applying them in practice. In the future, I will observe more classic works to strengthen my spatial imagination and practical ability, and apply the knowledge I have learned flexibly to my designs, striving to improve my literacy and skills in spatial design.

WEEK10

This week has left me with a profound impression. When learning about formal transformations, various examples have broadened my horizons and made me aware of the infinite possibilities of addition and subtraction in shaping space. However, I have realized that my sensitivity to borrowing architectural elements is insufficient. For example, when incorporating elements of famous buildings into my design, it is difficult for me to quickly grasp the key points. Regarding the interactive design of the lakeside corridor, although I have some ideas, I lack considerations for cost, practicality, and environmental coordination. In the future, I will actively cultivate my design thinking, improve my aesthetic sense, and make up for my deficiencies in practice to enhance my design ability.
